The Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) is a national-level competitive exam conducted by the Indian Air Force (IAF) to recruit officers for its Flying, Technical, and Ground Duty branches. Eligibility Criteria

1. Age Limit:

  • Flying Branch: 20 to 24 years (Relaxation up to 26 years for candidates with a valid Commercial Pilot License)
  • Ground Duty (Technical & Non-Technical): 20 to 26 years

2. Educational Qualifications:

  • Flying Branch: A minimum of 50% marks in Physics and Mathematics at the 10+2 level and a graduation degree (B.E./B.Tech/B.Sc) from a recognized university.
  • Ground Duty (Technical): Engineering degree in relevant disciplines with at least 50% marks.
  • Ground Duty (Non-Technical): Graduation/Post-graduation in specific disciplines with at least 50% marks.


Exam Pattern

The AFCAT exam consists of multiple-choice questions (MCQs) divided into four sections:

  1. General Awareness - History, Geography, Current Affairs, Sports, Science, and Defense.
  2. Verbal Ability in English - Grammar, Comprehension, Synonyms, Antonyms, and Idioms.
  3. Numerical Ability - Algebra, Profit & Loss, Time & Work, and Speed & Distance.
  4. Reasoning and Military Aptitude - Spatial Ability, Logical Reasoning, and Data Interpretation.

The exam carries a total of 100 questions, each carrying 3 marks (Total: 300 marks). A negative marking of 1 mark is applicable for each incorrect answer.


EKT (Engineering Knowledge Test)

Candidates applying for the Technical branch must also clear the EKT, which includes questions related to Mechanical, Computer Science, and Electrical Engineering.

  2. Air Force Selection Board (AFSB) Interview
  • Stage 1: Officer Intelligence Rating Test & Picture Perception and Discussion Test
